Trip to Peru
Trip Narrative
- This is on the way from Cusco to Machu Picchu. It shows the terraces made by the incas, still used today.
- Peruvian girl and her llama. She made her money posing for pictures on the roadside.
- The Sacred Valley on the way to Machu Picchu. Very nice. We stayed near here one night.
- Some of the merchandise for sale in the artisans markets in the Sacred Valley.
- The Peruvians claim that Maize originated in Peru as well as Mexico. They have many varieties with the biggest kernels I have ever seen.
- Rita, my son, Josh, and I at lunch.
- The Spanish built their houses on the foundations of Inca buildings. Here you can see the Inca foundation laid with no mortar. The Incas were great workers of stone.
- Here we are at Machu Picchu. One of the most beautiful places in the world. It is slightly over 8,000 feet in elevation.
- This is a sun dial in the Temple of the Sun. Some tourists think this is a special place. I saw wormen put their rings and jewelry on this rock to "pick up the energy." This was prohibited by the Peruvian guards who were constantly on the alert for this kind of thing.
- Some mountains surrounding Machu Picchu.
- Machu Picchu in the afternoon.
- Machu Picchu early the next morning.
- One of my friends in the market.
- A dancer on the train back to Cusco, Peru.
- The end of the Peru trip in Lima overlooking the Pacific.
